One of those days…..

Posted in Uncategorized at 11:06 am by Michelle Grech

I’ve been suffering from technological woes today .  I spent almost 3 hours working on a document, diligently saving it as I went only to find that it has disappeared into cyberspace.  Arghhhhhhh how frustrating, now I’ll have to start all over again.

Consequently I haven’t managed to get my fingers inky today.  Probably a good thing – IT problems have a way of evaporating my mojo.  So here’s ’one I prepared earlier’ using the level 2 Hostess Bundle ‘Spring Solitude’.  I really like the wheel in this set and I ‘ve used it here to create a frame effect.  The white centre space was done using a mask and then wheeling across both the card front and the mask.  After removing the mask I stamped the flower images and sentiment into the white space and layered a second solid flower over the image with a dimensional.  Once again the colour is the Purely Pomegranate from this year’s In-Colours.

TIP: When covering a large space using a wheel freehand it can be difficult to keep your alignment perfect.  However if you run diagonally across the page rather than up and down or straight across it won’t be so noticeable if you stray from your line.

Bleached Berries

Posted in Cards, Stampin’ Up!®, Techniques at 1:05 pm by Michelle Grech

Last night was Technique class and our focus this week was bleaching.  Now I’d always kept bleach out of our household because things always seemed to end up with the colour taken out of them and white patches all over the place (and that was before I’d even begun cleaning).  But that is exactly the desired result in this technique.

This card was inspired by this one from Marelle , I was suckered in again by those cute little berries from the ‘Oh So Lovely” hostess set.  However instead of using the white watercolour crayon to create the blank palette on which to colour as Marelle did, I decided I to bleach the colour from the cardstock and then add it back in using a Blender pen and Inkpads.

The berries were stamped repeatedly on Sage Shadow cardstock using both Versamark and the new Basic Grey ink pad followed by clear embossing powder.  Embossing the image helps to stop your bleach from bleeding and yes, leaving white patches where they’re not supposed to be.

I applied the bleach using my Aquapainter.  If you are going to do this I suggest you keep a designated brush just for this purpose and don’t forget to label it.  I use Domestos as I like the thick consistency which helps me keep the bleach where it’s supposed to be however I  should think any household bleach would be suitable.

Once the colour has faded, a quick blast with a heat gun will help this process and this card is dry I reapplied colours of my choice with a blender pen and classic ink pads.  The image was layered on Not Quite Navy cardstock and then onto a base card of Soft Sky, stamped first with the Baroque wheel in Soft Sky.  The sentiment is from ‘Life Definitions” and is stamped in ‘Not Quite Navy’ ink.

Inspired by Colour – not

Posted in Cards, Specials and Promotions, Stampin’ Up!® at 12:42 am by Michelle Grech

Kristine Werner - Colour Challenge #9I decided this week that I should try to work some more with colours from the ‘bold brights’ range, I find them incredibly difficult and despite the title of this post they do not ‘inspire’ me.

So I did some blog hopping and would you believe it, Kristina Werner’s colour inspiraion this week had all the required elements.  Not only were there ‘bold brights’ but ones I would never have chosen to work with myself – Real Red, Pumpkin Pie (now didn’t your mother tell you never to wear red and orange together), So Saffron, Old Olive and Tempting Turquoise.  What a mixed bundle.

I decided to keep the stamping simple, the colours were going to be difficult enough.  But even with the barest of stamping this card was still a challenge for me.

The So Saffron Designer Paper is from this month’s Palette o’ Prints promotion from Stampin’ Up! – at least that choice was easy cos this paper is so yummy and the sentiment is from ‘Occassional Greetings’

I can’t say I’m entirely happy with the result but practice makes perfect, that is what they say……isn’t it?.  Oh I hope so.   Leave me a comment and let me know what you think (I need more practice don’t I).

More card boxes, more Oh So Lovely

Posted in Cards, Picture to Page, Stampin’ Up!® tagged at 8:14 am by Michelle Grech

I really am in love with this set, it’s so easy to work with.

This is a card box I made for the prize draws at Picture to Page a couple of weeks ago (can’t believe it’s been that long already – it’s scary).  Again I used the level 1 hostess set ‘Oh So Lovely’ and the ‘In-Colours’ Purely Pomegranete and River Rock and the card box template courtesy of Marelle Taylor.   I also inked up my ‘Life Definitions’ for the first time.  This was a set I got for free during Sale-a-bration at the start of this year.  It has a really nice font and stamps beautifully.  I can see lots of “definition” in the future.

Giving handmade cards is always nice but giving a set of cards to someone for them to have on hand when they need one adds a nice touch I think and the box just sets it off nicely.
